Interpreting Poetry

My words are very easy to understand,
Very easy to practice.

No one under heaven can understand them,
No one can practice them.

Words have ancestors,
Deeds have masters.
If people don't understand this,
They don't understand me.

Few understand me,
And that's my value.

Therefore the Sage wears rough clothing
And carries jade inside.

Chapter 70 - Tao Te Ching

__

Tao called Tao is not Tao.

Names can name no lasting name.

Nameless: the origin of heaven and earth.
Naming: the mother of ten thousand things.

Empty of desire, perceive mystery.
Filled with desire, perceive manifestations.

These have the same source, but different names.
Call them both deep--
Deep and again deep:

The gateway to all mystery.

Chapter 1 - Tao Te Ching

__

Great Te appears
Flowing from Tao.

Tao in action --
Only vague and intangible.

Intangible and vague,
But within it are images.

Vague and intangible;
Within are entities.

Shadowey and obscure;
Within it there is life,

Life so real,
That within it there is trust.

From the beginning its name is not lost
But reappears through multiple origins.

How do I know these origins?

Like this.

Chapter 21 - Tao Te Ching

Rhys Chatham - Scrying In Smoke

Rehearsal

Scroll down the metal shutter
Behind it in the dark the naive curvy mouth
open for the rain
waiting eternally and bent the sky

night falls
The rehearsal of the stars shining on the waters
extended
harmonics

All the posts are standing

Blood Promise

When silence falls
And light remains
And time is born
Beneath the sun
I'll hide your name.
Inside a word
And paint your eyes
With false perception
And I feel your mind
In everything
And every breath
Destroys a sound.
And I will follow
A false sensation.
And I'll always believe.
Your blood promise
And every breath.
I stole from you
And I never will see
Your perfect body
And you never have spoken
An unclear word
And I'll never betray
Your blood promise.

Dilma Roussef, o progresso e as capitanias hereditárias?

Louis MacNeice

I decided to open my readings to things aloof my usual choice, in the search for breaking with any aesthetics preconceptions which may block my further reading. In the following poems I find a weigh in some way. More diluted images and words, though strong in cartography means of storytelling imagination. So I share:

from Nouvelletes

II
Les Sylphides

Life in a day: he took his girl to the ballet;
Being shortsighted could hardly see it -
The white skirts in the grey
Glade and the swell of the music
Lifting the white sails.

Calyx upon calyx, canterbury bells in the breeze
The flowers on the left mirror to flowers on the right
And the naked arms above
The powdered faces moving
Like seaweed in a pool.

Now, he thought, we are floating - ageless, oarless -
Now there is no separation, from now on
You will be wearing white
Satin and a red sash
Under the waltzing trees.

But the music stopped, the dancers took their curtain,
The river had come to a lock - a shuffle of programmes -
And we cannot continue down
Stream unless we are ready
To enter the lock and drop.

So they were married - to be the more together -
And found they were never again so much together,
Divided by the morning tea,
By the evening paper,
By children and tradesmen's bills.

Waking at times in the night she found assurance
Due to his regular breathing but wondered whether
It was really worth it and where
The river had flowed away
And where were the white flowers.

(1939)

Neutrality

The neutral island facing the Atlantic,
The neutral island in the heart of man,
Are bitterly soft reminders of the beginnings
That ended before the end began.

Look into your heart, you will find a County Sligo,
A Knocknarea with for navel a cairn of stones,
You will find the shadow and sheen of a moleskin mountain
And a litter of chronicles and bones.

Look into your heart, you will find fermenting rivers,
Intricacies of gloom and glint,
You will find such ducats of dream and great doubloons of [ceremony
As nobody today would mint.

But then look eastward from your heart, there bulks
A continent, close, dark, as archetypal sin,
While to the west off your own shores the mackerel
Are fat - on the flesh of your kin.

Awakening the man in the forest

Brewing tea bag as the land in time
Dazed in hot steam

Blue as the sky – as your mirror

Retreat of the clouds
Brings no rain, and the knights follow the moon
To reach an apple

The night holds the whole land
And there is no low without high

Please, follow his words:
All the apples are in the forest
And the ancestors ghosts on the moon

Live Poetry

"The Silver Lining, The Spider Webs! An unexpected side-effect of the flooding in parts of Pakistan has been that millions of spiders climbed up into the trees to escape the rising flood waters. Because of the scale of the flooding and the fact that the water has taken so long to recede, many trees have become cocooned in spiders webs. People in this part of Sindh have never seen this phenomenon before but, they also report that there are now far fewer mosquitoes than they would expect, given the amount of stagnant, standing water that is around. It is thought that the mosquitoes are getting caught in the spiders web, thus, reducing the risk of malaria, which would be one blessing for the people of Sindh, facing so many other hardships after the floods...!!!" - from facebook profile: Pakistan the Only choice ***

I don't know if it's true, but it is so beautiful and poetic that I couldn't let this pass by. The picture is great too.

Melancholia by Von Trier

From the prologue videos I have seen in Youtube I could have a glimpse of how sad it must be to watch Melancholia. And I don't know if I would like to. If I may compare, it seems to me as a narrative story of the twilight Time; experienced even if for a brief moment as the end of all life and the routine by us the observers, of the light movement and the surreal and artificial colours of the plants, flowers and everything surrounding us in that moment. The melancholia of the observer exploited to the most and without that other pairing feeling of excitement that comes to you in the first time you see the lights at the twilight, which is so wonderful.

Like in Antichrist, our minds feeling the reality as a dream. And that dream movement as if walking in muddy air.

Willow's Song

Heigh ho! Who is there?
No one but me, my dear.
Please come say, How do?
The things I'll give to you.
By stroke as gentle as a feather
I'll catch a rainbow from the sky
And tie the ends together.
Heigh ho! I am here
Am I not young and fair?
Please come say, How do?
The things I'll show to you.
Would you have a wond'rous sight
The midday sun at midnight?
Fair maid, white and red,
Comb you smooth and stroke your head
How a maid can milk a bull!
And every stroke a bucketful.

Song also from the movie "The Wicker Man", which I haven't actually watched yet, but I intend to asap. I love the soundtrack.

Stone to measure the depths of a man

wants the guest

Circe's Memories

Folded blankets of hay
[resting]
to undo nature
In the way to North
Blinds in daylight-
unfolding brown sable fur.

The fool
the only, the many
meadow-where
- uncountable names,
silver-white arms at nighttime
clean.

Dafne set sail
after the sun,
Elliptical wind–
deepening bough-thoughts
so sky can meet with fire
Outer
within humming.

And when and within waves
only men faithful to their ship
Her bore.
The powerful [well]-she
Blind on land.

The fool’s lost his eyes
washed away by the lady’s linen
eyes of sun.

[Within]
the sky
clothed with ground
The marriage of life and death –
measured with ancestors
By fire and stone.

All the past deeds washed away
by the sun movement
And the fool
in means of justice
breaks into war and peace.

Please, Bind fire Eyes!
The dusky meadows forgive
the fool’s deeds
And the sun
makes no memory of the fool
in its birth.

Karinna

Benfica

num estado aquietado de espio
vejo, velho, o Sergipe que nunca me viu

velhas em coques miúdos,
(aparições arredias que são)
temendo céu, raio, golpe de vento
tesoura aberta, espelho, trovão
quebranto, pegajosas jias,
um dia perder procissão, ave-maria!

olho vesgo, lesma, visgo no pé,
(vou me perdendo, aos poucos, da fé)
anjos rezando, altares, almas penadas, penares
perdidas perdições, santos maculados nos tetos
calangos torrados, abandonados, a sacristia sombria
silencio e cemitério, terços gastos nos dedos
dor de puteiros e estrada vazia, de confissões suprimidas
de  tétano na carne da alma

piou o mocho! valha-me nossa senhora!

quem seca agora e desola o norte do poema?

curupiras, mulas, caiporas, crendices desoladas
criaturas banidas, danadas

“-pelan, pelan, pelan, pelan, pelanpelamparina”

o fim do mundo acabou! quem disse?

e Deus, quem disse?

e Eu, quem disse?

quem disse que existo Eu e Deus e o Sergipe?

Hungry... and the fallow endeavor or the battles in the horizon of no dreams:

From Lichtzwang (1970):

AT BRANCUSI'S, THE TWO OF US

If one of these stones
were to give away
what it is that keeps silent about it:
here, nearby,
at this old man's limping stick,
it would open up, as a wound,
in which you would have to submerge,
lonely,
far from my scream, that is
chiselled already, white.

FALLOW-VOICED, lashed
forth from the depth:
no word, no thing,
and either's unique name,

primed in you for falling,
primed in you for flying,

sore gain
of a world.

DO NOT WORK AHEAD,
do not send forth,
stand
into it, enter:

transfounded by nothingness,
unburdened of all
prayer,
microstructured in heeding
the pre-script,
unovertakable,

I make you at home,
instead of all
rest.

From Die Niemandsrose (1963):

ANABASIS

This
narrow sign between walls
the impassable-true
Upward and Back
to the heart-bright future.

There.

Syllable-
mole, sea-
coloured, far out
into the unnavigated.

Then:
buoys,
espalier of sorrow-buoys
with those
breath reflexes leaping and
lovely for seconds only -: light-
bellsounds (dum-,
dun-, un-,
unde suspirat
cor),
re-
leased, re-
deemed, ours.

Visible, audible thing, the
tent-
word growing free:

Together.

The Raven

Corvo sentinela do mundo metálico.
Gate-nails
plantas
drawing lines in pavements and roads
seguem ao limite do tempo-cidade. Nervoso e fixo.

Quietude símile.
Sonhadora dos infortúnios e sem olhos.
Seu nome respeita o grau preciso
do bico. Aerodinâmica dos buracos negros.

Irrefletido em seu posto.

Os ventos curvam as folhas
e seus pelos.

K.A.Gulias

A casca flutuou. Napi jogou a pedra na água, e ela afundou. As pessoas morrem."

Face a face

Em silêncio sentei frente ao meu convidado;
Nossas mentes estavam abertas e ambos nos esquecemos;

Quando tudo é dito, ano após ano isso tem seu uso;
Melhor que isso não se vá.
O olho é curto no distante horizonte de Ch'u;

Passam as barcas sob as pontes
E os anjos-correio
Descansam na fumaça dos navios de guerra

Entre a erva
Silva a locomotiva no cio
Que atravessou o inverno

As duas cordas de seu rastro
Atrás dela ficam cantando
Como uma guitarra indócil

Seu olho nu
Charuto do horizonte
Dança entre as árvores
Ela é Diógenes com o cachimbo aceso
Buscando entre os meses e os dias

Sobre a via equinocial
Comecei a caminhar
Cada estrela
É obus que rebenta

As plumas de minha garganta
Se enfraqueceram ao sol
que perdeu uma asa

O divino aeroplano

______________________Caça auroras boreais
Num iceberg iam aos pólos _No pólo sul
Para deixar seu cachimbo em lábios
Esquimós

Outros cravam novas lanças no Congo
O coração da África ensolarado
Abre-se como os bicados figos

E os negros
de divina raça
Escravos na Europa
Limpando de seu rosto
a neve que os mancha
Homens de asas curtas
Percorreram tudo
